For the first time in the nation’s football history, a Ugandan national team will step onto the global stage as the Uganda U-17 side, affectionately known as The Cubs, make their debut appearance at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.

The young Ugandans open their campaign on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, with a crucial clash against Canada at 8:45 PM (Ugandan time) in what promises to be a thrilling encounter under the desert lights.

Ahead of the global showpiece, the Cubs fine-tuned their tactics at the Dubai Youth Challenge Cup, hosted at Al Hamriya Cultural and Sports Club.

Though the results were modest, a 1-1 draw with Venezuela, followed by narrow defeats to Panama (1-2) and Paraguay (2-3), the experience was invaluable in shaping their readiness for elite competition.

“We are more than ready for action. The build-up tournament helped us identify our strengths and improve our combinations. The players are mentally and physically set for the challenge ahead,” Ssenyondo emphasized.

The final squad features an exciting blend of technical brilliance, raw power, and youthful hunger. In goal, Adrian Mukwanga (Vipers SC JT), Edrisah Waibi (Buddo SS), and Gilbert Mazige (NEC FC JT) provide a strong last line of defense.

Captain Richard Okello (BUL FC JT) leads a dynamic group that includes midfield maestro Brian Jjara (KCCA FC), creative engine Isima Magala (Masaka Sunshine FC), and forward talents like James Bogere (Masaka Sunshine FC) and Simon Wanyama (Bukedea Comprehensive).

Uganda finds itself in Group K, alongside Canada, Chile, and France, a challenging yet inspiring pool that offers the perfect platform for the Cubs to test themselves against some of the world’s most renowned youth football programs.
