Cristiano Ronaldo has indicated that he plans to end his illustrious career at Al Nassr, likely in the next two to three years. This revelation suggests that a return to his first club, Sporting Lisbon, is unlikely. Speaking to the Portuguese channel NOW, Ronaldo expressed contentment with his life in Saudi Arabia and his desire to continue playing there. “I’m very happy at this club, I feel good in this country, too. I’m happy to play in Saudi Arabia, and I want to continue,” Ronaldo said.
Since joining Al Nassr in December 2022 after a controversial departure from Manchester United, Ronaldo has scored an impressive 50 goals in 48 appearances. Despite his personal success, Al Nassr has yet to win a trophy with him, finishing second to Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League last season and losing the King’s Cup to their city rivals. Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr is estimated to be worth over $220 million.
Ronaldo remains committed to the Portugal national team, starting all of their matches at Euro 2024 and helping them reach the quarterfinals, where they were defeated by France on penalties. The 39-year-old still intends to play for Portugal and hopes to participate in the upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Poland. He has reiterated that his decision to retire from international football will be spontaneous yet carefully considered, leaving the timing of his exit uncertain.
