NEC FC maintained their perfect start to the Uganda Premier League season with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Kitara FC at Royal Park, Butema, on Thursday.
Enock Ssebagala and Gadafi Wahab were the heroes for NEC, scoring the decisive goals to secure the win.
Kitara’s Living Kabon pulled one back late in the game, but it was not enough to prevent NEC from claiming all three points.
The match was a physical encounter with few clear-cut chances in the first half.
NEC suffered a setback early on when Paul Mucureezi was forced off with an injury.
James Jarieko replaced the injured midfielder as both teams searched for an opening.
After a goalless first half, NEC broke the deadlock in the 50th minute through Ssebagala’s powerful strike from distance.
Kitara responded with a goal from Kabon in the 68th minute, but Wahab’s late goal sealed the victory for NEC.
The win keeps NEC at the top of the league table with six points from two matches.
Kitara will be looking to bounce back from their defeat in their next fixture.
