- Kitara 0-1 Police
Police secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Kitara in the Uganda Premier League encounter on Thursday.
Augustine Kacancu scored the all-but-important goal as the Cops secured maximum points away from home.
It was joy and smiles for Police, who had secured their maiden victory of the 2024-25 campaign, while on the other hand, it was stress and tough faces for Kitara, who lost the third straight game.
Police’s Kacancu broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with a volley past Kitara goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba.
Isaac Ogwang’s freekick was parried away by Kiyimba, but Kacancu guided the ball into the back of the net off a rebound.
In the 35th minute, Brian James Obedi thought he had doubled the visitors’ lead, but the assistant referee Elizabeth Nassolo flagged it offside.
In the second half, Kitara made several changes to try and create chances in the tight game, but Police stood tall.
Before the end of the game, Patrick Kaddu nearly found the leveller, but his touch off Lutalo’s delivery went narrowly wide.
The victory takes Police to the seventh position with six points while Kitara falls to the 11th place with only three points after four games.
After the international break, Kitara will face off against Mbarara City in the ‘Western Uganda’ derby on Friday, October 18.
On the other hand, Police will face off against Express at Kavumba Recreation Ground, Wakiso, on Sunday, October 20.
