The 2024/25 Uganda Premier League season kicked off with a thrilling match between defending champions KCCA FC and URA FC.
The Kasasiro Boys emerged victorious, securing a 1-0 win at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
In the 12th minute, URA’s Moses Aliro had a golden opportunity to open the scoring, but his shot was brilliantly saved by KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalibu Mugolofa.
KCCA responded with a powerful header that was also denied by URA keeper Derrick Ochan.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 30th minute when Saidi Mayanja unleashed a powerful shot that flew into the top corner of the URA net.
The goal gave KCCA a well-deserved lead going into halftime.
URA fought back in the second half but were unable to find an equalizer.
In the 38th minute, Mugolofa made another impressive save to deny Norman Namanya’s long-range effort.
KCCA nearly doubled their lead in the closing stages of the first stanza , but Derrick Nsibambi’s goal was ruled offside.
The victory gave KCCA a perfect start to the season, unlike their disappointing campaign last year.
The Kasasiro Boys will be hoping to build on this win and challenge for the title once again.
