    • Express 2-1 NEC
    • Kitara 0-1 Police

Express secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against NEC in the Uganda Premier League at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Thursday evening.

Under the floodlights, the Red Eagles staged a thrilling show to put an end to NEC’s perfect start to the 2024/25 league campaign.

Express scored twice under 10 minutes through Geoffrey Gagganga and Ronald Andabati before Cromwell Rwothomio pulled back one in the second half.

Gagganga placed the hosts in the lead in the fifth minute as he opened his account at his new club since leaving UCU.

Andabati doubled the hosts’ lead in the eighth with a simple touch off Richard Basangwa’s delivery within the area.

Express kept on the front foot throughout the first stanza but NEC’s backline responded in equal measure.

NEC came back in the second half with confidence and a direct approach toward the Red Eagles.

Rwothomio finally pulled back one for NEC after placing the ball at the far post past Express goalkeeper Kagiri.

The victory lifts Express to the fifth position with seven points while NEC remain second with nine points after four games.

Express will visit Police at Kavumba on Wednesday, October 16 while NEC will take Maroons three days later.
