As the Uganda Premier League returns in full swing, the pressure is mounting on several head coaches who find themselves on the brink of being sacked due to poor performances. Three coaches are currently under intense scrutiny as they struggle to meet expectations.
Shadik Ssempigi – Lugazi FC
Shadik Ssempigi, who joined Lugazi FC at the start of this season, is facing a potential early exit.
Replacing Richard Makumbi, Ssempigi is yet to lead Lugazi FC to a win in four games, having only secured a single point from a goalless draw against Vipers SC.
The Lugazi-based club sits bottom of the table with just one point and a loss in today’s crucial clash against Mbale Heroes could see the coach sacked. With no victories and limited time, Ssempigi’s future is hanging by a thread.
Abbey Kikomeko – Bul FC
Abbey Kikomeko, head coach of Bul FC, is another manager in trouble. After leading Bul FC to consistent top performances in previous seasons and successfully defending the FUFA Super 8 trophy in a penalty shootout win over Vipers, Kikomeko’s team has started the new campaign in poor form.
Bul FC has lost two games and drawn two, leaving them second last on the table with just two points.
The Jinja-based side is expected to turn things around quickly, and the upcoming fixture against URA FC on Friday, 18th October, could determine Kikomeko’s future at the club.
Nikola Kavazovic – Vipers SC
Vipers SC head coach Nikola Kavazovic has also found himself in hot water. Despite Vipers being one of the league’s powerhouses, Kavazovic has struggled to deliver the results expected of him.
In their most recent match, Kavazovic had to step aside as assistant coach John Luyinda took charge in a 2-1 win over SC Villa.
Vipers sit 4th on the table with seven points from four games, but the team’s inconsistency has caused unrest among fans and management.
Kavazovic’s stay at Vipers SC will be evaluated after the crucial Wakiso derby against Wakiso Giants tomorrow, Thursday, 17th October, at Kabaka Kyabagu Stadium
With all three coaches feeling the heat, the next few games could prove to be career-defining moments for them in this season’s Uganda Premier League.
