The Uganda Premier League saw a closely contested match between UPDF and Wakiso Giants at Bombo Barracks on Tuesday, with the Army side emerging victorious with a 1-0 win.
The decisive goal came from Samuel Ssekamatte, who calmly converted a penalty in the second half.
The spot kick was awarded after a handball by Musa Ssegujja as he attempted to clear a cross from Christopher Kawagu.
Despite Wakiso Giants’ recent form, which included two wins and a draw in their previous three matches, they were unable to break through the UPDFdefence.
The Army side’s pacy forward, Samson Kigozi, posed a constant threat, but Wakiso Giants goalkeeper James Alitho made several key saves.
The match was physical but evenly balanced, with both teams having opportunities to score.
A goal-line clearance by defender Benard Muwanga prevented Wakiso Giants from equalizing late in the game.
The victory lifted UPDF to fourth place in the league standings, level on points with Wakiso Giants, who dropped to third.
UPDF will next face KCCA at MTN Omondi Stadium on Saturday, October 19, while Wakiso Giants will host Vipers on Thursday.
