Uganda U-20 National Team (Hippos) secured a second straight victory in the U-20 AFCON CECAFA Qualifiers.
The Hippos secured a well-deserved 4-1 victory against Burundi in a thrilling encounter in Tanzania.
Allan Oyirwoth’s effort was directed into the back of the net by Burundi’s defender Samir Selemani as the Hippos drew first blood in the second minute.
Ddembe doubled Uganda’s lead with a powerful effort from close range in the 18th minute. He made a great run to pounce onto a dropping ball before he fired home.
Four minutes later, Ddembe extended Uganda’s lead with a brilliant header as the boys in yellow harvested from their great start.
Before the break, Burundi threw several bodies upfront, but Hippos’ custodian Abdu Magada guarded his goal area emphatically.
In the 58th minute, Ramadhan Hakizimana scored another own goal, giving Uganda the 4-0 advantage.
Two minutes later, Christopher Ndeyikengurukiye pulled back one after Uganda’s backline went to sleep on the job.
The victory takes Uganda to six points, thus securing a spot in the semifinal spot of the ongoing tournament.
The Hippos will return to the action on Friday, October 11, as they take on South Sudan in the final group game.
