The Uganda Cranes touched down at Entebbe International Airport early Friday morning at 6:00 AM aboard EgyptAir, returning from their 3-1 defeat to Mozambique in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Mozambique struck first just four minutes into the game through Pepo, but Uganda quickly responded as Muhammad Shaban leveled in the ninth minute. However, the hosts regained the lead in the 15th minute, with Pepo netting his second. The situation worsened for Uganda in the 36th minute when Denis Omedi received a second yellow card, leaving the Cranes with 10 men. Just before halftime, Tanley Ratifo extended Mozambique’s lead to 3-1.
Uganda fought to stage a comeback in the second half, with Seemugabi rattling the crossbar in the 60th minute. However, Mozambique controlled possession and sealed their victory.
With the loss behind them, the Cranes now turn their attention to their next qualifier against Guinea on March 25, 2025. Determined to revive their campaign, the team will begin preparations immediately, knowing a win is crucial to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
