Five years after hanging up his gloves for the national team, Uganda Cranes legendary captain Denis Onyango is set to make a remarkable return.
The veteran goalkeeper will rejoin the squad ahead of the World Cup qualifiers, scheduled to take place on September 5th and 8th at Namboole Stadium.
Uganda currently sits fourth in Group G, trailing leaders Algeria, as well as Mozambique and Botswana. Onyango’s comeback is seen as a huge boost to the Cranes’ ambitions of reaching their first-ever FIFA World Cup tournament.
The 2016 African Footballer of the Year (based in Africa) believes this campaign could mark a historic moment for the country, while also providing him the perfect chance for a memorable farewell when he eventually takes his final bow from international football.
