Uganda’s national football team, The Cranes, secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Congo on Tuesday, marking their second away win and fourth overall in their AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign. This victory propels Uganda to 13 points, just one shy of Group K leaders South Africa, who recently triumphed with a 3-0 win over South Sudan in Cape Town.
The decisive goal came in the 55th minute, courtesy of Trevis Mutyaba, whose strike sealed the match for Uganda. Despite persistent efforts, the Red Devils of Congo failed to mount a response, allowing The Cranes to maintain their lead until the final whistle.
This victory was a statement of resilience following Uganda’s earlier setback, a defeat to South Africa at Namboole. Cranes head coach Paul Put had promised a stronger performance, and the team delivered under pressure, showcasing determination and tactical improvement.
With 13 points, Uganda is firmly in contention, trailing closely behind South Africa. The Cranes’ qualification for AFCON 2025 has already been confirmed, and they are set to join Africa’s football giants in the pursuit of the continent’s most coveted title
