Uganda Christian University (UCU) and St Lawrence University (SLAU) kicked off the 2024-25 University Football League (UFL) season with a thrilling 1-1 draw at Mukono on Tuesday.
The match was a back-and-forth affair that had fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
UCU’s Harry Abiti opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a powerful free-kick that curled into the top corner.
However, SLAU’s Ronnie Ziraba levelled the match just three minutes later with a well-placed header from Derrick Kato’s cross.
Both teams had chances to take the lead throughout the match, but solid goalkeeping and determined defending kept the score tied.
UCU’s Dalton Mwidu made a crucial save in the first half to deny SLAU’s Henry Kayemba, while SLAU’s defence stood firm against UCU’s relentless attacks.
The draw leaves both teams with a point in Group C, which also includes Kabale University and YMCA Comprehensive Institution.
The UFL tournament continues on Thursday, September 19, with Makerere University hosting Victoria University.
