Yesterday, the 10th day of November,alumni from one of Masaka’s academic giants St Stephens College Bajja(SCOBA)-Kalungu launched the first edition of the SCOBA LEAGUE, a sports event that united ten teams from previous alumni years in heated competitions across different games at Blend Gardens In Bwaise Kampala. The main theme of this league was to harness physical fitness, Cerebrate the old school moments, networking and sharing business opportunities among the school’s vast Old students community.
The competing teams included Class of 2011 (alumni from 2008-2011), Stoke City (2010-2013), Mature Approach (2009-2014), Kabaawo (2011-2016), Stallions (2012-2017), Expendables (2015-2020), Home Boys (2016-2022), Nkalubo (2017-2023), Elites (2018-2019), and The Champions (2013-2016). The event was filled with lively sports action featuring football, Ludo, tug of war, and sack races, that saw old boys and girls clashing for the winners title.
The football competition was the highlight of the day, drawing enthusiastic cheers from the crowd. After a series of fierce matches, The Champions emerged victorious, edging out Kabaawo in a gripping penalty shootout after a (1:1) draw at the finals. The level of play exhibited was commendable, with each team demonstrating power. Serugo from Stoke City led the scoreboard as the top scorer, netting an impressive three goals throughout the tournament.
Special accolades were awarded for outstanding performances among which were Novious Twongirwe from Kabaawo crowned as Best Female Player, Mivule from The Champions taking home the title of Best Footballer and Kabaawo’s coach Mayamba Andrew, earning the distinction of Best Coach.
Home Boys, a proven standout team, captivated the audience with their skillful play. Spearheaded by their dynamic player Lubega Musa, they secured a 1-0 victory over Stallions and battled to a draw against the Expendables in their second game. This was the most flexible team that put on a very interesting game for revelers.
The most heated match was between Stoke City and Class of 2011 with Stoke City dominating their 2011 elders in a 4-1 victory in a hard fought derby.
Beyond football, the competition extended to other traditional and board games. Stallions triumphed in the Ludo competition, while Kabaawo excelled in the sack race, adding to their overall achievement. The day ended with Kabaawo being crowned the overall champion of the first edition of The SCOBA League, thanks to their consistent performance across various sports.
Kicking off an all exclusive after games cerebration was NTV Tnation host Starborn Timkash who flamed up chants from the excited crowd backed by the Culture dance crew that flew in flexible dances. This dynamic performance left the audience cheering and wanting more. The audience joined in the dance cerebration with charm.
