The Uganda Premier League returns midweek with a pair of intriguing fixtures that could redefine the early-season narrative for both URA FC and Police FC.
At Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo (7 PM), URA FC will be desperate to convert promise into victory when they host UPDF FC.
The Tax Collectors have drawn all four of their opening matches, scoring just two goals — a frustrating run that has left fans craving a statement win. Head coach Alex Isabirye remains optimistic that his side’s persistence will soon pay off, with captain Nelson Ssenkatuka once again expected to lead the charge up front.
“We’ve created chances but haven’t been clinical enough. This is the game we must turn things around,” said Isabirye ahead of the match.
Their opponents, UPDF FC, arrive with mixed fortunes — one win, one draw, and one loss — and sit a point behind URA (three to four). While the army side will look to surprise, history tilts the scales toward the hosts. URA have lost just two of their last sixteen league meetings with UPDF (W9, D5).
Last season’s corresponding fixture ended 2-1 in URA’s favor, courtesy of goals from Moses Aliro and Abraham Tusubira, while Faridi Rashid struck for UPDF.
Earlier in the day, attention turns to the Police Arena, Kiira Road (4 PM), where Police FC host a confident Maroons FC side brimming with belief.
The Prisons team, buoyed by the return of midfielder Ivan Asaba from a concussion, will look to build on their strong start. Police, on the other hand, are determined to make their home ground a fortress and bounce back from recent setbacks.
Both fixtures carry significant weight as teams search for consistency, momentum, and early bragging rights in what promises to be a fiercely competitive campaign.
