APR midfielder Taddeo Lwanga has been recalled to the Uganda Cranes squad for their upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers against South Sudan.
The news was announced by Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put during a press conference at FUFA House, Mengo.
Lwanga has been absent from the national team, but the wait comes to an end for the hardworking midfielder.
However, his impressive performances with APR have earned him a spot in Put’s 27-man squad.
Joining Lwanga in the squad are KCCA FC duo Derrick Nsibambi and Gavin Kizito.
Additionally, Shafik Kwikiriza, who has been a standout performer for KCCA since his transfer from BUL FC, has also been included.
Unfortunately, Shaban Muhammad and Elvis Bwomono have been dropped from the team due to a lack of playing time at their respective clubs, primarily caused by recurring injuries.
Uganda is currently grouped with Congo Brazaville, South Africa, and South Sudan in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. With four points from two matches, the Cranes are aiming to secure one of the top two spots in the group to qualify for the tournament, which will be hosted by Morocco.
The first leg of the Uganda-South Sudan clash will take place at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, on Friday, October 11. The return leg is scheduled for four days later in Juba.
