Ssenyondo to Step Down After the U17 World Cup

    • As Uganda’s Under-17 national football team gears up for their maiden FIFA World Cup appearance, head coach Brian Ssenyondo has revealed that he will resign following the conclusion of the tournament.
    • Speaking on Tuesday, Ssenyondo said, “During our last match in Morocco, I spoke with the FA president and expressed my confidence that this team would qualify for the World Cup. I also informed him that I would step down after the tournament. Although he initially hesitated, I formally submitted my request to FUFA, and I am grateful they accepted it. I will now step aside from the U17 and look forward to the next big challenge, possibly with the senior national team, as my ambitions remain high.”

Ssenyondo made history in April 2025, becoming the first Ugandan coach to guide a team to a football World Cup.

This achievement also positions him to become the first Ugandan to manage a team on the global stage.

The Uganda U17 squad officially commenced preparations today, October 8, at the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, bringing together over 40 players from both local and international clubs.

Placed in Group K alongside France, Canada, and Chile, Uganda will open their campaign against Canada on November 5, face Chile on November 8, and conclude the group stage versus France on November 11.
