Napoli have completed the signing of Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay for a fee believed to be in the region of €30m (£25.4m).
McTominay has left United after 22 years at the club, rising through the youth ranks and making his mark in the senior team.
The 27-year-old went on to make 255 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 29 goals in that time, but has brought down the curtain on his time at Old Trafford.
In his final season at United, McTominay grabbed 10 goals – only Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund registered more – and proved to be an important player for under-fire manager Erik ten Hag, filling in as both a midfielder and an attacker.
But with United attempting to move away from the open style of play which plagued their 2023/24 style of play, they could not give assurances to McTominay over his game time and he has now departed for Napoli, signing his contract just before Friday’s transfer deadline.
McTominay becomes one of Napoli’s marquee signings of a summer transfer window which has dragged on following an incredibly disappointing season which saw them finish tenth in Serie A.
New head coach Antonio Conte has publicly bemoaned of the club’s standards and is hoping to revive their on-field fortunes after a forgettable defence of their Scudetto.
