Diogo Dalot gave Portugal an early lead as he found himself in an unfamiliar territory but smartly converted in the seventh minute.
Ronaldo extended Portugal’s lead with a volley to guide home Nuno Mendes’ deed cross in the 34th minute.
Dramatically, Diogo Dalot guided the ball in his net to keep Croatia’s hopes alive before the break.
Portugal are levelled with Poland at three points after playing one game of Group 1 in League A.
