Decorated defender Raphael Varane has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31.
The tough decision has been made today Wednesday, September 25, 2025 after several discussions.
“You represented our colours with great distinction during your three season at Old Trafford,” Manchester United’s statement reads.
“We thank you for your humility, leadership and commitment. May these qualities serve you well in your next venture.”
Varane made the decision to put an end to his decorated career after suffering a knee injury on his debut for Club Como.
The defender joined Como after departing Manchester United as a free agent in the just concluded transfer window.
He cemented his name in the book of the greats after winning four Champions League titles and three La Liga titles.
During his stay at Manchester United, he lifted the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in the little while he spent at Old Trafford.
Varane made it clear that he has no regrets about his career since his achievements give him immense pride and a feeling of fulfilment.
