Uganda Cranes will be locking horns with South Africa in the opening game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Friday at Orlando Stadium, Johannesburg.
The Group K clash will see two sides for the first competitive encounter since the 2006 World Cup Qualifiers.
Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put beams with confidence ahead of the upcoming clash against the Bafana Bafana today.
“I love what am seeing so far. The energy, teamwork and positive spirit. These will be crucial in this fight,” he stated.
“We have to fight for the right to be in morocco next year, and the fight starts today against South Africa,” he added.
Uganda is in Group K with South Africa, Congo Brazzaville and neighbours South Sudan.
The Cranes will be looking for the maiden victory against South Africa having lost in all the four previous meetings.
Team news
South Africa will miss skipper and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and forward Percy Tau. Themba Zwane will take on the captain’s armband to lead the team.
On the other hand, Uganda will miss the services of defenders Kenneth Semakula and Halid Lwaliwa due to visa issues that hindered their travelling.
