KCCA FC fans have expressed their frustration with head coach Abdallah Mubiru following a 2-0 defeat to fierce rivals Vipers SC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Sunday. The loss extended KCCA’s winless streak to five games, leaving them in seventh place on the Uganda Premier League table with 24 points—16 points behind league leaders Vipers. It was their second consecutive defeat, having also fallen to NEC just three days earlier.
Disgruntled fans blamed Mubiru for the team’s struggles, citing poor tactical decisions and ineffective substitutions. One particular substitution—replacing experienced defender Joel Sserunjogi with youngster Brian Jjara—sparked outrage among supporters, who believed it cost them the match. “Our coach made mistakes that gifted Vipers the win. He made a bad substitution, taking off Sserunjogi for a young player in such a big game,” a fan told NBS Sport.
KCCA had started the season strongly, winning five of their first seven matches and positioning themselves as early title contenders. However, their form has significantly declined, with only one win in their last 10 outings. Fans believe this slump is due to Mubiru’s lack of a clear tactical identity and inconsistent decision-making. “We no longer have an identity as a club, and we as fans don’t even know the system the team plays,” one supporter lamented.
Mubiru, who took over in November 2023, has yet to deliver silverware, a point that has further fueled fan discontent. “Abdallah Mubiru is an average coach. There’s nothing he has ever won for the club, and there’s nothing he’s going to win,” one fan stated. Another supporter questioned his ability to instill a winning mentality in the squad, arguing that the team lacks direction and character.
Some fans have gone further, calling for the return of former head coach Mike Mutebi, who led the club to two Uganda Premier League titles. “Mubiru has failed as a coach. KCCA is a trophy-winning team. If he can’t deliver, management should bring in other coaches like Mike Mutebi,” one supporter suggested. Others have also criticized club management for allowing key players to leave, weakening the squad.
The defeat was made even more painful as former KCCA star Allan Okello sealed Vipers’ victory with a 30th-minute goal. His performance further fueled frustrations among fans, who believe club management’s decisions have hurt the team’s competitiveness. With pressure mounting, Mubiru’s future at KCCA is under intense scrutiny as the club fights to salvage what remains of their season.
