The Uganda Cranes CHAN team has wrapped up their final preparations ahead of the decisive second-leg encounter against Burundi in the CHAN 2024 Qualifiers.
The much-anticipated match is set to kick off at 6 PM today, Sunday, December 29, at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo. Uganda’s head coach, Paul Put, stressed the importance of maintaining squad consistency while addressing areas for improvement identified after the first-leg match.
“We’ve carefully reviewed the team’s performance in the first leg and pinpointed aspects that need refinement. Our focus is on enhancing our overall gameplay without disrupting the team’s balance,” said Put.
He added, “Introducing major changes at this point might compromise our ability to gauge the team’s full potential. While we’ll make minor adjustments, retaining the core squad remains essential to build confidence and ensure continuity.”
Coach Put also rallied fans to stand behind the Cranes, recognizing their unwavering support as a key factor for success.
“Ugandan fans have always been the backbone of the Cranes. Their energy and encouragement mean everything to the team. These players are their own, and they thrive on the fans’ unwavering support,” he stated.
He continued, “The incredible support we’ve witnessed so far has been both inspiring and electrifying. We hope to see the same level of enthusiasm today, as it gives the team an extra edge.”
Uganda will play a significant role in CHAN 2024 as one of the co-hosts alongside Kenya and Tanzania. Matches will be staged at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, offering Ugandans a chance to showcase their passion for football on a continental stage.
