Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put is brimming with confidence as his team prepares to face South Africa in a crucial AFCON qualifier on Friday, September 6, at Orlando Stadium.
Speaking ahead of the match, Put expressed his delight with the team’s current form and morale.
“I’m absolutely thrilled with what I’m seeing from the players,” he said.
“The energy, teamwork, and positive spirit they’ve shown have been exceptional.”
The experienced coach, who has guided teams to five AFCON finals, believes that his current squad has the potential to qualify for the tournament.
“This is a group of players who have the ability to achieve great things. But we need to work hard and remain focused.”
Put emphasized the importance of the South Africa match as a crucial step towards Uganda’s goal of returning to the AFCON.
“This is a huge game for us,” he said. “A positive result against South Africa would give us a big boost in our quest to qualify.”
Uganda is pitted in group K with South Africa, Congo, and South Sudan.
The top two teams in the group will advance to the final tournament.
The Cranes are eager to end a disappointing two-year absence from the AFCON.
