André Onana’s turbulent season hit a new low on Tuesday night as the Manchester United goalkeeper clashed with a fan following Cameroon’s 1-0 loss to Cape Verde.
Onana, who was culpable for the decisive goal, reacted angrily when a supporter confronted him after the final whistle. Cameras captured the 28-year-old shoving the fan away before a water bottle was thrown in his direction, prompting security to step in and restore order.
The incident adds to a difficult year for Onana, whose inconsistent form has seen him lose his starting role at Old Trafford. Reports suggest he is now on the verge of a loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor as he looks to regain confidence and rebuild his reputation.
Once regarded as one of Europe’s most dependable shot-stoppers during his stints at Ajax and Inter Milan, Onana’s struggles at club and international level have cast doubt on his long-term future at Manchester United.
