- UCU 3-1 Nemostars (18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23)
Uganda Christian University (UCU) Doves continued their impressive form in the National Volleyball League, securing a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Nemostars at Lugogo Arena on Wednesday evening.
Despite a shaky start to the season, the Doves have quickly found their rhythm, bouncing back from an opening-day loss to Elyon with consecutive wins.
Nemostars, on the other hand, were looking to maintain their unbeaten record.
The match was a thrilling encounter from the outset, with both teams showcasing their skills and determination.
Nemostars claimed the first set, taking advantage of UCU’s service errors.
However, the Doves rallied back in the second set, dominating the net and forcing their opponents into mistakes.
Mark Omara played a pivotal role in the Doves’ victory, leading the team with his powerful spikes and solid defence.
The third set was a closely contested affair, with both teams battling for every point.
UCU eventually edged out Nemostars, thanks to a crucial overreaching call that went in their favour.
The fourth set was a seesaw battle, with neither team able to gain a significant advantage.
UCU ultimately prevailed, securing the win with a determined effort.
Nemostars’ George Aporu admitted that his team’s performance was below par, attributing the loss to a lack of focus and unnecessary errors.
“We started well but lost our way as the match progressed,” he said. “We need to go back and work on our mistakes, especially our unforced errors. The season is still long, and we have plenty of opportunities to bounce back.”
