NEC Hold URA in a Tense Encounter
League leaders NEC fought back to secure a crucial 1-1 draw against URA at Nakivubo Stadium. Godfrey Sekibengo put URA ahead in the first half, but NEC’s Paul Mucureezi leveled the game in the 70th minute with a clinical finish.
The match took a dramatic turn seven minutes later when URA’s Hudu Mulikyi received a straight red card for retaliating against Enoch Ssebagala’s foul with a dangerous stamp. Despite being reduced to 10 men, URA held on to deny NEC all three points.
NEC remain at the summit of the table with 23 points, two ahead of second-placed Vipers SC, who have played one game fewer. URA, with an inconsistent record of four wins, three draws, and four losses, are eighth on 15 points.
Maroons Thrash Mbarara City at Kakyeka
In Mbarara, Maroons FC produced a masterclass to trounce the hosts 3-0 at Kakyeka Stadium. Baden Mujahid Ogama was the star of the match, netting a brace with goals in the 3rd and 51st minutes. The second came after a defensive mix-up between Mbarara goalkeeper Abdul Kimera and defender Karim Ramathan.
Godwin Kitagenda capped off a fine display for the visitors with Maroons’ third goal in the 65th minute, sealing their fourth win in 11 matches. The victory propelled Maroons to sixth place with 16 points, while Mbarara City languish in 11th place on 12 points, just two spots above the relegation zone.
