Mohamed Salah has revealed that no discussions have taken place about extending his contract with Liverpool following his goal in the 3-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday.
The Egyptian star, now in his eighth season at Anfield, has enjoyed significant success, including Champions League and Premier League titles. Salah’s goal at Old Trafford marked his 214th for the club, but with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season, he admitted he’s approaching this campaign as if it could be his last with the Reds.
After scoring against United for the 15th time in his career, Salah told Sky Sports: “I had a good summer and spent some time trying to stay positive. As you know, it’s my last year at the club. I just want to enjoy it without thinking too much about the future. I feel free on the pitch, and we’ll see what happens next year.”
Salah, who has previously expressed a desire to enjoy his final season before deciding on his future, also noted that key teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are in similar contract situations with their deals expiring next year.
He added: “I came into this game thinking it might be my last time playing here with Liverpool. No one at the club has spoken to me about a new contract, so I’m just playing like it’s my final season and will see what happens afterward. It’s out of my hands.”
In the match against United, Salah provided two assists for Luis Diaz and scored his third goal of the season, adding to his previous strikes against Ipswich Town and Brentford.
