Manchester United have officially entered talks with Sporting CP to sign Viktor Gyokeres next summer, according to a new report by Florian Plettenberg. The Swedish striker has been in sensational form this season, netting 24 goals in just 21 appearances under the management of Ruben Amorim, who now heads United.
United’s pursuit of Gyokeres faces significant hurdles, including the need to raise transfer funds and fend off competition from Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side, who suffered a 4-1 defeat to Sporting in the Champions League earlier this season, were undone by a hat-trick from Gyokeres — a performance that heightened City’s interest in the 26-year-old forward.
Gyokeres is no stranger to English football, having previously played for Coventry City, where he scored 43 goals in 116 appearances. He also had a brief stint with Brighton & Hove Albion, making eight appearances and scoring once.
Both Manchester clubs are keen to secure the striker’s services, but it remains to be seen if Sporting can hold onto their star player or if Gyokeres will reunite with Amorim at Old Trafford.
