Lugazi FC and Mbale Heroes treated fans to an exciting 1-1 draw in their Uganda Premier League Matchday 5 encounter, held at the Lugazi FC Stadium in Najjembe.
Both sides displayed a competitive and high-energy game, which saw chances at both ends but ultimately finished with the spoils shared.
Mbale Heroes started the brighter of the two teams, breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute when Gideon Etou pounced on a rebound to slot home after Lugazi FC goalkeeper Juma Mutebi could not hold onto a powerful shot.
The goal sent the visiting fans into celebration, while Lugazi FC found themselves on the back foot early in the game.
However, Lugazi FC regained composure and pushed for an equalizer. Their efforts paid off just before halftime, in the 35th minute, when Derrick Mwanje rose high to head in a superb cross from Abdul Kalanzi.
The midfielder’s precise header levelled the game, sparking cheers from the home supporters who had filled the stadium in large numbers.
The second half saw both teams determined to find a winning goal. Lugazi FC pressed forward, with forward Moses Buga providing threatening crosses, while Mbale Heroes looked dangerous on the counterattack.
Despite creating numerous opportunities, neither team could find the breakthrough, and the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
