In a dramatic twist to the Uganda Premier League (UPL) season, the FUFA Appeals Committee has delivered a crushing blow to KCCA FC by upholding the FUFA Disciplinary Panel’s decision. The ruling confirms that KCCA FC fielded an ineligible player in their January 7, 2025, clash against Mbarara City FC.
The controversy centers around right-back Gavin Kizito Mugweri, who had racked up three yellow cards prior to the match, making him ineligible for selection. Despite KCCA’s hard-fought 2-0 victory on the pitch, the Appeals Committee has nullified the result, awarding Mbarara City FC a 3-0 win by forfeiture along with all three points.
“Clubs must ensure strict compliance with player eligibility rules to uphold the integrity of the league,” the committee asserted in its statement.
This decision is a significant setback for KCCA FC, who were banking on the appeal to maintain their momentum in the title race. The forfeiture not only dents their points tally but also threatens to derail their championship ambitions as the league intensifies.
