The long-awaited climax of the 2025 Buganda Masaza Cup will take centre stage this Saturday, November 1st, at the newly refurbished Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo, and it comes with royal elegance as His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II is set to grace the grand finale.
Buganda’s Premier, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, confirmed the delightful news, calling upon Kabaka’s subjects to turn up in overwhelming numbers to welcome their King and witness the crowning of a new champion in one of Uganda’s most prestigious cultural football tournaments.
“His Majesty Kabaka has this morning returned from England where he was on official duties. He will grace today’s Masaza Cup final, and I call upon the people of Buganda to come in huge numbers to welcome him and enjoy this big occasion,” the Katikkiro announced.
This year’s finale promises fireworks as Ssingo and Buweekula lock horns in what is expected to be a pulsating encounter under the watchful eyes of the Kabaka.
Two-time champions Ssingo, winners in 2015 and 2018, will be chasing a third title in their sixth final appearance. Their journey to the final has been one of grit and discipline, highlighted by a hard-fought 2-1 aggregate victory over Bugerere in the semifinals and a slim 1-0 aggregate win against Mawokota in the quarters.
Coach-led and battle-hardened, Ssingo’s defence has been their backbone conceding sparingly while striking at key moments to edge through tight contests.
On the other hand, Buweekula, playing in their third-ever final, are determined to rewrite history and lift the Masaza Cup for the very first time.
They edged Kyaggwe on penalties (4-3) after a tense 1-1 semifinal aggregate and dispatched Busujju 2-1 over two legs in the quarterfinals.
Their campaign has been full of resilience and character, balancing attacking flair with steely determination — qualities that have made them one of this year’s most exciting teams.
The prestigious list of past winners includes Buganda’s powerhouse counties such as Buddu (2024, 2021, 2016), Bulemeezi (2023, 2019, 2012), Gomba (2020, 2017, 2014, 2009, 2004), and Ssingo (2018, 2015) and on Saturday, another chapter will be written in the Kingdom’s rich football heritage.
