Uganda long distance runner Joshua Cheptegei finished second in the NN Dam tot Damloop 10-mile road race in Amsterdam, Netherlands on Sunday.
Ethiopia’s Edris Muktar has a thrilling finish to beat Cheptegei after posting 44:51 in the tight race.
The 5000m and 10000m record holder, Cheptegei, settled for silver after posting 45:18 in front of Kenya’s Mathew Kimeli.
After the race, Cheptegei described the race as a learning process as switches from track to the road.
“It’s a good experience for me, and I hope to correct some challenges best known to me. Just as I said, I learn a lot from challenges, and [this] always makes me better,” he said.
He will now switch full focus to the marathon, and the target will be qualifying for the marathon at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships in 2025.
To achieve that, he has to run a time of under 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 30 seconds in a qualifying race next year.
