Uganda Cubs midfielder Brian Jjara has rejoined KCCA after an unexpected early exit from the ongoing U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Initially named in Uganda’s 22-man squad, Jjara was unable to feature in the Cubs’ opening 5-0 defeat to hosts Morocco. His campaign was cut short after an MRI test, a FIFA-mandated age verification procedure, ruled him ineligible for the competition.
Before the setback, Jjara had been a key part of Uganda’s pre-tournament preparations, playing in two friendly matches against Cameroon and Burkina Faso, both of which ended in narrow defeats.
Following the MRI results, he was forced to return home, arriving in Uganda on Wednesday morning and quickly resuming training with KCCA later that day. Prior to his national team call-up, Jjara had been instrumental for KCCA, last featuring in their emphatic 5-0 victory over Mbale Heroes on March 8.
His absence meant he missed KCCA’s crucial Uganda Premier League clashes against UPDF and Bright Stars.
Now back in the squad, Jjara is set to be available for selection when KCCA faces Kitara in a crucial away fixture in Hoima this Saturday. His return comes as a timely boost for the team as they aim to strengthen their position in the league standings during the final stretch of the season.
