Guinea head coach Michel Dussuyer has announced a 23-man squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Somalia and Uganda. His selection includes notable omissions and fresh call-ups, reshaping the Syli Nationale lineup.

The French tactician has left out key players, including former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita, Celta Vigo’s Ilaix Moriba, and Nantes defender Saidou Sow. Keita remains sidelined due to injury and is expected to return in June. Moriba reportedly requested a guaranteed starting role, which Dussuyer declined, while Sow opted to stay with his pregnant wife, leading to his exclusion.

Also absent from the squad is forward Mohamed Bayo, who played a pivotal role in Guinea’s 2-1 victory over Uganda in the previous round. Currently on loan at Royal Antwerp, Bayo has struggled for form, failing to score in six matches since his January move.

However, Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy headlines the squad, alongside in-form players such as François Kamano and Abdoulaye Touré. Additionally, Genk midfielder Ibrahima Sory Bangoura has received his first senior call-up after an impressive season in Belgium, where he has made 24 appearances for the Jupiler Pro League leaders.

Guinea will host Somalia in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on March 21 before traveling to Kampala to face Uganda on March 25. Currently third in Group G with six points, the Syli Nationale must secure maximum points to stay in contention for World Cup qualification, as only the group winners are guaranteed a spot at the tournament.

Dussuyer has strengthened his defense with the return of Mohamed Ali Camara and Mouctar Diakhaby, both of whom have recovered from injuries. Meanwhile, Hafia FC goalkeeper Mory Keita remains the only locally-based player in the squad.
