Bunyaruguru United has announced the signing of versatile forward John Ssekyaaya, who joins the Western region giants on a short-term contract from Mbale Heroes.
The 26-year-old brings a wealth of experience and adaptability, being able to play on both wings as well as in the central forward role.
Ssekyaaya was instrumental in Mbale Heroes’ promotion to the Uganda Premier League, scoring seven goals and providing four assists last season.
His efforts helped elevate the team to the top flight of Ugandan football, solidifying his reputation as a dynamic and impactful player.
Bunyaruguru United, competing in the Western region league, narrowly missed out on promotion last season after losing in the final playoff stage of the FIFA Big League to Ntoda FC.
The club hopes Ssekyaaya’s arrival will boost their attacking options and push them over the line in their quest for promotion.
Ssekyaaya’s career has seen him play for several top sides, including MYDA FC in the Eastern region and Ggomba Saza and Ssingo Saza in the Masaza Cup.
He was also part of the Buddo Secondary School team that won the 2018 Uganda Secondary Schools’ Championship in Mbarara and the FEASSA championship in Rwanda.
His early promise was further demonstrated during his time with Kampala Junior Team, where he helped them reach the quarterfinals of the 2018 Uganda Cup before being eliminated by SC Villa.
Speaking after his move, Ssekyaaya said, “I’m excited to join Bunyaruguru United and help the team achieve its ambitions. It’s a great club with passionate fans, and I look forward to giving my best on the pitch.”
Bunyaruguru United will be counting on Ssekyaaya’s experience and goal-scoring ability as they aim to climb back into contention for promotion to the Big League.
The versatile forward’s arrival is seen as a significant boost to their chances in the upcoming season.
