The Final Draw for the TotalEnergies CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 took place on Thursday, February 13, in Cairo, placing Uganda in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Tanzania, and Zambia.
The tournament is set to run from March 30 to April 19, 2025.
Reacting to the draw, Uganda Cubs Head Coach Brian Ssenyondo acknowledged the tough challenge ahead but emphasized his team’s commitment to achieving their ultimate goal.
“Our target is the World Cup. This is not the easiest draw to welcome, but it’s one we must take. Facing the hosts, Morocco, is a tough challenge,” said Ssenyondo.
“I haven’t analyzed Zambia in detail yet, but I know they have qualified for AFCON three times in a row, which makes them a strong opponent,” added the CECAFA U17-winning coach.
The draw divided the 16 qualified teams into four groups of four, with Morocco automatically placed in position A1 as the host nation.
This marks Uganda’s third appearance at the U17 AFCON, following their previous qualifications in 2019 (Tanzania) and 2021, though the latter tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Historic U17 World Cup Expansion
The 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup will be a historic edition, as FIFA has expanded the tournament to 48 teams. A record 10 African nations will participate in the global event, which is scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 5 to 27, 2025.
